While Equibit was enduring technical attacks, insider betrayal, regulatory pressure, and financial warfare, another insidious front was opened: brand impersonation and online defamation.
In early January 2023, during a media blitz ahead of Chris Horlacher’s speaking engagement at Anarchapulco 2023, a fake Equibit website was discovered operating at equibit.io that was using his name and likeness, claiming he was the CEO.
How the Fake Site Was Discovered
On January 4, 2023, independent journalist Rafael LaVerde was preparing to publish his interview with Chris Horlacher. While searching for official links to include in the video description, he came across equibit.io. He added it to the description. When Horlacher reviewed the published video, he immediately recognized the site was not legitimate and launched an investigation.
What the Evidence Reveals
A detailed review of archived versions of the site on archive.org provides damning clarity. A snapshot captured on April 3, 2019 — during the height of the company’s collapse — shows a copyright notice for UBITQUITY LLC, a company wholly owned by Nathan Wosnack.
This is not a coincidence.
Nathan Wosnack has long been suspected of being a CSIS asset, and not only by Chris Horlacher and Equibit Group. After Chris ceased all communication with Marc Godard in October 2021, Nathan began trying to re-establish contact with Chris with several bait emails, one even referring to Marc as a “self-centered douche.” During discovery with CSIS, it was confirmed that the agency had knowledge of and an interest in him. Later, during Marc Godard’s 2025 fraudulent hostile takeover attempt, Nathan attempted to insert himself as a supposed shareholder to help pass a resolution terminating Horlacher’s role as Executive Director and shutting down the lawsuit against Christian Saucier.
The Timing and Intent
The fake website was active and being used at a moment when Horlacher was actively conducting interviews and preparing public presentations. The clear intent appears to have been to:
- Discredit Equibit and Horlacher in front of new audiences
- Create confusion about the legitimacy of the project
- Undermine ongoing media and public awareness efforts
The use of NameCheap for registration and hosting added another layer of difficulty in quickly shutting the site down. They eventually acknowledged the illegal nature of the website, but refused to disclose the identity of the owner.
This Was Not Random
When viewed in context, this impersonation operation fits perfectly into the broader multi-year campaign:
- It occurred during a period of heightened visibility
- It was linked to an individual (Nathan Wosnack) with documented suspicious connections and behavior
- It employed the same pattern of deception, timing, and deniability seen throughout the Equibit saga
What This Means
The campaign against Equibit was never limited to technical sabotage or legal warfare. It extended into digital forgery and reputation assassination — creating fake versions of the company itself to sow confusion and damage credibility at critical moments.
This is not the first time Nathan’s activities have brought about suspicion as to whether he is an intelligence asset. Shortly before joining Equibit Group, Nathan very publicly left another startup he’d been working with; BitNation. Shortly after the announcement that Nathan joined Equibit, the BitNation founder reached out to Chris Horlacher, accusing Nathan of espionage and sabotage of her project. Unfortunately, with nothing more than Tempelhof’s suspicions to go on, Equibit pressed forward with onboarding Nathan.
This incident further demonstrates the coordinated, multi-domain nature of the operation and raises serious questions about how many other digital attacks occurred that remain undiscovered.
